Step by Step
1
Prepare the Çaydanlık
Fill the larger, bottom teapot (çaydanlık) with about 1.5 liters of fresh cold water.
⏱ 2 min
2
Add Tea Leaves
Place 2-3 tablespoons of good quality Turkish black tea leaves into the smaller, top teapot. Do not add water to the top pot yet.
⏱ 1 min
3
Boil Water
Place the bottom teapot on the stove over high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil.
⏱ 10 min
4
Steep the Tea
Once the water in the bottom pot is boiling, carefully pour about 250-300 ml of the boiling water into the top teapot over the tea leaves. Place the top teapot back onto the bottom teapot.
⏱ 2 min
5
Simmer and Brew
Reduce the heat to low, ensuring the water in the bottom pot continues to simmer gently. Allow the tea to brew slowly for at least 15-20 minutes, or even up to 30 minutes for a stronger brew. This slow brewing process is crucial for extracting the full flavor.
⏱ 20-30 min

Serve Turkish Cay
To serve, pour a small amount of the concentrated tea from the top pot into a traditional tulip-shaped tea glass. Then, dilute it with hot water from the bottom pot to your desired strength. Add sugar if preferred and enjoy immediately.
