Step by Step
1
Prepare the Cucumber
Wash and either finely grate or dice the cucumber. If grating, place the grated cucumber in a colander, sprinkle with a pinch of salt, and let it sit for 5-10 minutes to draw out excess water. Squeeze out as much liquid as possible using your hands or a clean kitchen towel. This step is crucial for a thick Cacik.

4
Mix and Adjust Consistency
Stir all the ingredients together thoroughly until well combined. If you prefer a thinner consistency, gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired texture. Taste and adjust salt if necessary.

5
Chill for Best Flavor
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the Cacik for at least 30 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully and ensures the dip is perfectly chilled and refreshing when served. The longer it chills, the better the flavors develop.

Serve and Garnish
Before serving, give the Cacik a final stir. Ladle it into a serving bowl. Drizzle a little extra virgin olive oil over the top and garnish with a sprig of fresh dill or a sprinkle of dried mint or red pepper flakes for an authentic touch. Serve immediately with pita bread, crusty bread, or as a side to grilled dishes.
