Step by Step
1
Prepare the Cucumber
Wash and peel the cucumber. Grate it using the large holes of a box grater, or finely dice it. Place the grated cucumber in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and squeeze out as much excess water as possible. This step is crucial for preventing a watery Cacik.

Mince Garlic and Chop Herbs
Peel and finely mince or crush the garlic cloves. Wash and finely chop the fresh dill and mint. Ensure they are well-drained and dry before adding to the yogurt.

3
Combine Yogurt and Garlic
In a medium mixing bowl, add the full-fat plain yogurt. Stir in the minced garlic and a pinch of salt. Mix well to ensure the garlic is evenly distributed throughout the yogurt.

Add Cucumber and Herbs
To the yogurt mixture, add the squeezed cucumber, chopped fresh dill, and chopped fresh mint. Gently fold all the ingredients together until they are thoroughly combined.

Adjust Consistency and Seasoning
Taste the Cacik and adjust the salt as needed. If you prefer a thinner consistency, gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired texture. Mix gently after each addition.

6
Chill and Garnish
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the dip to chill thoroughly. Before serving, drizzle generously with extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle with a few extra sprigs of dill or mint for garnish.
