Step by Step
1
Prepare Ingredients and Rice
Cook 4 cups of short-grain white rice according to package instructions. While rice cooks, prepare vegetables: julienne carrots and zucchini. Slice mushrooms. Blanch spinach and bean sprouts separately in boiling water for 30 seconds, then immediately rinse in cold water and squeeze out excess moisture. Mince garlic. Set all prepared ingredients aside.

Cook the Beef
In a bowl, marinate the thinly sliced or ground beef with 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 clove minced garlic, 1 teaspoon sesame oil, and a pinch of black pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from pan and set aside.

3
Sauté the Vegetables
Using the same pan, add a small amount of vegetable oil if needed. Sauté each vegetable separately: carrots for 3 minutes, zucchini for 3 minutes, mushrooms for 5 minutes. For the spinach and bean sprouts, quickly toss them in the pan with a pinch of salt and 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil each. Season each vegetable lightly with salt and pepper as it cooks. Set each vegetable aside in separate piles.

Prepare the Bibimbap Sauce
In a small bowl, combine 4 tablespoons gochujang, 2 tablespoons sesame oil, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 teaspoon sugar, and 1 clove minced garlic. Mix well until smooth. Taste and adjust sweetness or spiciness as desired. This sauce will be mixed into the bowl.

5
Fry the Eggs
Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat with a little vegetable oil. Fry the eggs individually to your preferred doneness, typically sunny-side up with a runny yolk. A runny yolk is traditional for mixing into the Bibimbap.

6
Assemble the Bibimbap Bowls
To assemble, place a generous portion of warm cooked rice in the bottom of each serving bowl. Artfully arrange small portions of each prepared vegetable (spinach, carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, bean sprouts) and the cooked beef in separate sections over the rice. Top each bowl with a freshly fried egg. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds.
